INVITATION

Welcome to the International Workshop of the Society of Design and Process Science - SDPS2023. The overall theme of the 2023 Workshop is Towards an integrated design and process science. The objective of the Workshop is to address the role and contribution of supra-disciplinary research approaches to the development of transdisciplinary design and process science. Supra-disciplinary research concurrently supports the epistemological and the methodological aspects of scientific inquiry.

This SDPS2023 will be a great event for reviewing the state of the art and having scholarly discussions on the directions of integrated design and process science. Some of the highlights of SDPS2023 are as follows:

  • • Opening plenary discussion session on the results and challenges of ‘Towards an integrated design and process science’
    • Objects of studies of design and process science, research approaches and methodologies, state of the art of theories and practices, and future prospects. If mechanisms are a natural or established purposeful process flows, then how about the mechanisms to synthesize the knowledge and methods of mono-, inter-, multi- and trans-disciplinary sciences into a framework of supra-disciplinary research?
  • • Discussion session on ‘Comprehension of implementation science’
    • It takes 17-20 years to translate clinical innovations into practice, and fewer than 50% of clinical innovations are ever adopted into general usage. How to accelerate the real-world implementation of evidence-based interventions to improve population health?
  • • Discussion session on ‘Creativity vs design creativity’
    • Addressed are questions such as: What is creativity, design creativity, and designer creativity? How to measure and model them through behavioral, cognitive, and neurocognitive approaches? Is there a unified scientific framework (science) to embody creative cognition, creative mechanism, creative behaviors, and creative results? How might LLM technologies impact on to creativity, design creativity and designer creativity?
  • • Discussion session on ‘How next generation researchers see Mode 2 science?’
    • What is the vision, opinion, and expectation of Ph.D. students on problematics such as scientific convergence, transdisciplinary knowledge, collaborative research, knowledge synthesis, cross-disciplinary inquires, social/cultural aspects, etc.?
  • • Discussion session on ‘Intellectualized cyber-physical systems’
    • What are the deeper theoretical fundamentals and the operational and implementation principles of a dependable intellectualization of next-generation cyber-physical systems? What socialization and personalization of these systems means for the stakeholders? Where are we now and where are we going to?
  • • Discussion session on ‘Process design for system intelligence’
    • Guided and open inquiry-based learning assume that individuals are able to learn efficiently and purposefully from scenarios, models and approaches manifested in various cases - but how to realize it in the on-line practice?
  • • Discussion session on ‘Design and 4D Printing’
    • This session will open a venue for researchers in 4D printing and share different perspectives on this emerging technology and the industrial transition. There will be panelist presentations and discussions on information models and repositories, design processes, 4D printing processes, and materials included.
  • • Position papers from each workshop sessions are planned and will be submitted to a special issue of the Journal of Integrated Design and Process Science (JIDPS) by the workshop organizers. Some position papers from the workshop may also go to other suitable venues to inspire discussions in a wider community.

SDPS2023, the 2023 International Workshop of the Society of Design and Process Science, will be a great event to learn the opinions of internationally outstanding scientists, to get involved in-depth discussions on current and emerging interesting, even hot, topics. Please check the workshop’s website for details. On behalf of the Executive Board of the Society of Design and Process Science and all voluntary organizers, we look forward to meeting you or seeing you at this mixed arrangement event.
