SDPS 2015 PhD Symposium

Dallas, TX, US, November 2015

The SDPS welcomes PhD research students and invites them to submit extended abstracts for the PhD-Symposium, which will be held during the SDPS 2015 conference in Dallas, TX, US, 1-5 November 2015. The symposium will be an excellent opportunity for collaboration, networking and exchange of research ideas and practices amongst students and experienced conference participants.

As an International forum for disseminating knowledge, expertise and research practices, SDPS 2015 focuses on four major topics: Intelligent Systems, Systems and Design Science, Transformative Education, Business and Communities and Applied Science, Software Engineering and Advanced Technologies. We welcome interdisciplinary PhD research and look forward to receiving symposium submissions from our broad range of disciplines.

All submissions for the symposium will be peer reviewed and included in the Proceedings of SDPS 2015, ISSN 1090-9389.

The Goals of the Symposium

Our goal is to ensure that PhD students publically debate their research goals and results, have them commented on and evaluated by an international audience and receive feedback. These would enrich students' current research, answer their questions and highlight different approaches to solving problems of interest. The most important is to help participants in the symposium to:

  • Improve their presentation skills for the final viva examination,
  • Improve the way of creating succinct clear thought when presenting their research,
  • View their research from different perspectives, which would come from experienced academics and professionals with strong expertise across disciplines,
  • Debate their research challenges in friendly, collaborative and transdisciplinary environments of the PhD symposium.

Submissions and Reviews

The submission of extended abstracts should relate to students' PhD problem domain and should contain no more than 2 pages, excluding the reference list. It is recommended that each submission covers four main aspects of students' research:

  1. The domain and problems of interest,
  2. The proposal for addressing/solving the problem,
  3. Expected contribution towards knowledge / practice and short literature review,
  4. Progress in solving the problem, questions and future plans.

Students should show that their preliminary research, which triggered the problem of interest, has been completed. PhD students at all stages of their research are welcome, but students who already have a clear vision of their own research contribution will be given priority in this selection.

All accepted submissions are automatically enrolled in a competition, which will give the best student paper. It will be awarded to a student who develops the clearest and most concise representation of his/her research topic with the least amount of words. The decision would be made by at least two independent members of the Program Committee.
